"There are so many challenges that are present in this ever-changing world. Many individuals experience difficulty with navigating through the transitions of life, obstacles in their environments, and regulation of emotions. Extra encouragement, support, and skills can be beneficial to increase positive experiences and develop mental stability. I

have a strong desire to assist others with maintaining a healthy mental balance. My goal is to use the holistic approach to guide those I work with to utilize their strengths in a way that creates healthy patterns of coping.

Taking the first step to obtain services can be difficult and a very big decision. However, it is my hope to provide a supportive and smooth transition to obtain ethical and supportive services.

I believe that healing is an uncomfortable but beautiful process. It involves unlearning behaviors and habits and learning new ways to love and appreciate who you are, embracing that in order to grow. I have a passion for working with families, specifically children and the pregnant and postpartum population as I realize that this is such a pivotal time in life and an opportunity for birthing persons and their families to bloom into their best selves amidst bringing new life into this world. As a therapist, my goal is to create a safe and open space, and work alongside you to reach your highest potential. Your condition or diagnosis does not define you, and you are amazingly unique and special in who you are regardless of any circumstance past or present.

Cynthia Mewborn
Resident in Counseling

Therapist

Hello, my name is Cynthia Mewborn I am a resident in counseling from Norfolk,

Virginia and I graduated from Norfolk State University. What introduce me to the world of counseling

was my family; I started counseling them at a very young age giving them advice and analyzing their

behaviors. I also was a troubled teenager who had issues with processing my own emotions and I

remember not being able to get help from anyone, yet I was helping others which just happens to be

a talent of mine. My clients that I work best with are adolescent to adult ages 12-60 and I assist them

with reaching their goals by obtaining background information about client’s history along with

presenting problems and asking them what goals they would like to work on themselves. My

specialties are co-occurring disorders, children with ADHD & Autism.

"My journey into social work began with a deep-seated desire to make a tangible
difference in the lives of those who are often overlooked and underserved. From a
young age, I was drawn to the idea of providing support and advocacy for those in
need, compelled by the belief that no progress is possible without change. I am
passionate with a desire to provide support and advocacy, combining empathy, critical
thinking, and problem-solving skills to help clients achieve their goals and improve their
quality of life. I specialize in emotional support, counseling, and resource coordination,
particularly for clients experiencing emotional and behavioral difficulties, trauma, and
family dynamics issues. My approach includes a variety of therapeutic techniques, such
as cognitive-behavioral therapy and solution-focused therapy, to empower clients to
make positive changes. Additionally, I am passionate about advocating for systemic
change and improving access to services for marginalized populations, always striving
to build strong, trusting relationships with clients from diverse backgrounds."
